The study presents the legislative vacuum and the lack of understanding of librarianship which determines the "masked" development of the profession or its change into a "second-hand" profession left to the mercy of philologists and historians, as an auxiliary activity.
Recently the great social impact of librarianship was not based on a real openness of society towards this profession but rather on its functioning as a "social valve" for integrating high school graduates.
The teaching staff, especially those who teach special subjects, stress practical activities excessively, unable to place themselves in a formative, operational theoretic horizon. The "appetite" for inconclusive, non-performant scientific research which is otherwise in connection with the low level of Romanian librarianship periodicals of the last years, is a relevant example in this respect. Underlining the acquiring of certain working methods, education became imitative, depriving students from the possibility of initiative and professional motivation.
